When Considering A New Hairstyle

Are you ready for a new look? A new haircut and style should not only make you look good, but it should also make you feel good. Let’s talk about what you should consider – tips, trends, hair texture, length, your face shape, lifestyle, time, and maintenance.

If you are looking for a new stylist, you can talk to friends, family, and co-workers about referrals. Research salons in your area and read reviews. Many salons offer a consultation prior to the haircut with the stylist.

The first tip is to know what you want and be realistic about achieving the look. Bring several photos of inspiration for the stylist to reference. Double check the length and go over how long or short you want it to be. A couple of inches in our head can be a lot different from a measured two inches. It’s okay to see where the first cut is so you both agree. A different cut and style take time to get used to, let it settle in.

If you are looking for a change in your look and do not know where to start, try one of the hottest trends of 2023 – bangs. If you are not sure what style of bang, start with a longer curtain bang that you can blend back into your hair as needed. The big trends in bangs include; curtain, wispy, straight, edgy, piece-y, and baby bangs. All can change your look immediately.

Popular haircuts for 2023 include a straight chin-length bob (with and without a tousled messy look), the pixie, and yes – the mullet is back. It’s important to be honest and open winded with your stylist. They may want to make some tweaks to the look based on their experience and professional background that can reflect what would work with your hair texture and face shape.

Try something new and have fun!

Note from Julie D’Aloiso:

I recently visited All About You Salon and Spa in Northfield Center for a new spring look. Katie Polumbo, my stylist, took the time to assess my options. She asked me to show her some styles I liked and explain why, so she could get a sense of what I wanted. With long hair, there were plenty of possibilities — but choosing one can be tricky!

If you’re considering a new hairstyle, I’d recommend having an open conversation with your stylist. The more information you can provide them, the better chance they have of creating something you’ll love! Discuss the options mentioned above. I think you will notice with my before and after, my results were a huge success!
