OLDE EIGHT LANE CLOSURE

A Construction company is going to be closing one lane of Olde 8 at Firebush Ln. and Woodbury During the day and will have them open at night starting on 6/11/2018.  This will be for a couple weeks while they work on the Sewer Lines.

It should also be mentioned that at last Monday’s Trustees meeting, County Engineer representative Eugene Wilson advised us that the County will be resurfacing Olde Eight between Highland Road and the Boston Heights line sometime after the above-mentioned sewer repairs are completed.

NORTHFIELD CENTER’S NEWEST PARK PROPERTY

Northfield Center Township recently approved the purchase of 3.2 acres of vacant land next to our Townhall building.  The purchase is now final and the property is now ours.

There are currently no plans for the property.  According to the Summit County Auditor’s records it is zoned commercial (best use classification) which is a nonissue because the township does not pay taxes. And according to the Sagamore Hills maps it is zoned residential which is also a nonissue for purposes of building a park because this use is permitted.

According to our legal counsel, once NCT has a plan to build something on the parcel (ie., new townhall, service station, fire house, etc.) said plan has to be submitted to zoning in Sagamore for approval. The Trustees of Sagamore have final say on zoning and have contractually agreed to back NCT on any public use that is referenced in the contract until the Mortgage is paid off. Afterwards, it can be used for any purpose by NCT.

The property was purchased from Sagamore Hills for $200,000 payable over a ten-year no interest term.  Our Township also received a $25,000 grant towards the purchase from the Summit County Land Bank.

Currently, our Service Department is landscaping the front half of the property by clearing dead trees and noxious weeds.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q >>> – I just have a question on what are the rules for maintaining lawns. The homeowner at *** Hazel Dr never cuts his grass all summer. He never cut his lawn last summer. He also has a fire hydrant on his property which is hidden because of the overgrown lawn. He is a disgrace to our street whereas everyone keeps their property in shape.

A >>> – I gave the address to our Zoning Secretary at last Monday’s Trustees meeting (June 4th).  I asked her to add it to the 13 other addresses that will be sent notices to cut their grass.  If the grass is not cut by the stated deadline, we will hire a contractor to cut the grass and then bill the owner.  If the owner does not pay the bill, the amount will be added to their property tax duplicate.

Q >>> – Last fall during that tremendous wind storm, which created much havoc in the area, a tree came partially down along the side of Rte. 82 across from Beechwood drive. The tree was not attended to until a couple of weeks ago when part of it fell into the road, closing off traffic and and power to the area for a couple of hours. A large part of the tree still hangs precariously beside the road. Do we have to wait for it to come down and hit a car before the township takes action?

A >>> – Route 82 (Aurora Road) is a state highway and is maintained by ODOT.  ODOT is obviously aware of this situation and are responsible for addressing your concern.  This is not a Township issue or responsibility.

Q >>> – Paul, can you please stop at the corner of 8 and Fairhaven and get the folks renting there to remove the garbage dump in the yard ……..  they at best put out 1 can every 2 – 3 weeks.  Negiborhood is bad enough without the rat pile.

A >>> – I notified our Zoning Inspector about your concern and he is contacting the renter to clean it up.

Q >>> – Hi I talked to you about a neighbor’s pipe in my backyard…… My name is ****** at ***** Brandywine Road….. I have sent Sam many emails and he forwards them to Mr Sanders…… I just want to let you know that I’ve had to call the police twice over this matter because the neighbors are moving my property markers….. Just wondering if you can do anything to help or tell me what I should do if there’s something I’m not doing….. Thank you

A >>> – I once again advised our Zoning Inspector on your complaint.  He can address the pipe issue however, if your neighbor is moving the property markers as you allege, then this is a criminal matter that needs to be investigated by the Sheriff’s Office.  You need to contact them and file a formal complaint.

Q >>> – We don’t have kids. But every morning two Nordonia School busses drive down our 25 MPH road at anywhere from 40  to 50 MPH.  And there are kids in the bus!  Not to mention they have to speed by Deputy Wes’s cruiser, so they don’t care.  How do we get our school bus drivers to mind the speed limit?

A >>> – The only answer that I can give you is to get the bus number and contact the Sheriff’s Office and the Nordonia Hills School bus supervisor.  It might help to get a video of the bus speeding and to let the bus driver see you taking the video.  That in itself might convince the driver to slow down!

Q >>> – Hey Paul, I heard that NCT is really buying the property next to the town hall. How come you guys are going through with it? I remember during the election, candidate Perpera was totally against it. He said there were no town hall meetings about it and now you guys are spending taxpayer dollars. Why didn’t Mazzola and Revile include the people in this decision? What gives?

A >>> – What planet have you been living on?  We’ve openly discussed this at several public meetings and the subject has been reported in the newspapers.  The discussions have been ongoing since late last year!

I am truly saddened at the news of the passing of Sam Ciocco. When I first met Sam I didn’t quite know what to think of him. Here was this little old man who was a fireball that always was thinking of new ideas or ways to do things. I was very impressed with his energy because he never seemed to take a break. He and I would exchange ideas and thoughts every so often either on the phone or at the EPA PIPE meetings about a number of different subjects and sometimes one of us would get in a good-natured jab at each other. I loved those exchanges. He always brought a smile to my face because I knew he was truly a special person and those kind don’t come around very often. He was a good man who always put others ahead of himself and Northfield Center is a better place because of him. I thought of him not as a colleague but as a friend and I am going to miss him very much. Please accept my condolences.

Sincerely,

Mark Mitchell

Service Director

I am so sorry to hear about Sam Ciocco’s passing. He was a man who cared deeply about the people of Northfield Center! If I can do anything please do not hesitate to let me know.  Keep the faith my friend.

[Sheriff] Steve Barry and everyone at the SCSO.

Yes, Sam will definitely be missed. I remember working with him when I was President of the Historical Society. He was always so helpful it always socked me. Anyway he will be missed.

…………………………………………………….

I am so sad to hear this. Sam was always very kind and very helpful when I would visit or call and bug him with questions. He sure knew the township well, too. I know he will be missed.

I am sorry for the township’s loss.

…………………………………………………….

This is so sad to hear…I always liked Sam.  Great guy.  He will be missed.  Let us know if you need anything from us.

…………………………………………………….

Sam was such a friend to our community. He was always there to cheerfully answer any questions we posed. He will be truly missed!

…………………………………………………….

Oh . .. so sad to hear about Sam.  Sam was the very 1st person at the town hall I met when we moved here back in 2000.  Over the years we developed a first-name basis relationship as he never failed to respond to any of my inquiries . . .  getting answers to all my questions.  He will be missed by many.

…………………………………………………….

Thank you for letting the community know of Sam’s passing. Over the 24 years, when  dealing with the Township, he helped to make the process one of quick and speedy resolution. His follow-up on many tasks helped to reassure one that the Township cared and was concerned.  I will miss his dry sense of humor and I feel fortunate to call him friend.

Thanks ,Paul for the info. About Sam passing! Thanks for being a Trustee!!!

Regarding Issue 9 in Macedonia, why were the residents of Macedonia again asked to pay higher income tax? I thought the so-called regionalization of fire departments was supposed to be a cost saving measure for everyone involved? It seems this turned out to be a very bad idea for the citizens of the City of Macedonia. Why should the regionalization costs be borne on our backs? We should have let Northfield Center pay for its own fire department and left Sagamore Hills to do WHATEVER! But no, the Migliorini administration is consumed with power-grabbing, literally consumed. And now they want to consolidate Police and Service Departments? Please, let me just sign over my retirement check!
