To maintain and improve your health, physical exercise is pivotal. But many methods for working out can be boring, making it difficult to stay motivated. If you’ve struggled to find a way to exercise, joining classes might be the answer for you. Here are some unique fitness classes you (probably) haven’t tried yet.
Aerial Yoga
Combining traditional yoga with acrobatics, aerial yoga involves reaching poses called asanas while hanging in the air held up by a hammock-like setup of strong fabric. Since the support of the hammock relieves a lot of the burden on your muscles, you can reach more difficult positions, such as handstands. If you’re a novice in yoga or need to find an exercise that is easy on the joints, aerial yoga is a fun way to improve your physical health without unnecessary strain.
Tabata
For those with busy schedules, Tabata can offer an avenue for working out that does not cut deeply into time. This is because it emphasizes high-intensity exercise with minimal rest in between. The general structure is to carry out an intense movement for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and repeat this for four minutes. After you finish the whole block, you rest for one minute before doing another four-minute block with a different exercise. By the end of the session, you will have done around four or five exercises, and will likely feel overworked—but in a good way. Tabata involves strength and cardio, so its good for hitting multiple parts of your body as well.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Of all the martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stands apart due to how it allows practitioners to circumvent size and power disadvantages through leverage techniques and submission holds. You’ll learn all kinds of grappling moves and how to counter others’ attempts to pin you down. Eventually, adept Jiu-Jitsu practitioners get to a level where matches are as much a mind game as a physical one. You can gain an advantage by thinking ahead and predicting how your opponent will act. As you build to this level, you’ll intensely exercise your whole body to effectively perform techniques. Jiu-Jitsu classes can even be beneficial for your children because they can fortify their minds and allow them to work out.
