The Knights Varsity Hockey Team’s playoff season ended in February bringing the 2019-20 season to a close. The Knights lost to Westlake in the Baron Cup and to Orange in the state competition. Although the Knights were disappointed with the losses, they are keeping their heads high for they have made history at Nordonia High School and their legacy will live on.
The first notable achievement of the Knights is that the team remained undefeated in their division with a 13-0-1 record. Additionally, the Knights won the first ever Blue South Division Championship and will now have a banner proudly displayed in the high school. An unofficial record was set for attendance for the championship game against Mayfield. The skaters were amazed by the sight of the crowd as they waved their “Knightmare” towels.
A few of the players were recognized for their efforts during the season. Captain Carson Carrell was acknowledged as honorable mention All Blue League Team, Carson was also recognized, along with his twin brother Assistant Captain, Kenton Carrell, for 1st Team Blue South All Division Team. Goalie Tommy Lippincott was acknowledged for 2nd Team Blue South All Division Team.
Next year’s season should be quite the challenge for there are changes coming to the division. The Blue North and South Divisions may be combing which would create a more balanced and competitive league. The Knights are willing to take on the challenge and face it head on for possibly another division championship and the elusive Baron Cup.
The Knights will be graduating three seniors, Assistant Captain Vinnie Costello, Nate Juchnik, and Josh Lockshine. The team wishes the best of luck to these players who have contributed to the team’s success and camaraderie.
Overall the Knights played a very successful season finishing overall 13-13-1. The Knights will be back for more excitement next season so until then…Go Knights!
