Please note: NordoniaHills.News does not endorse any candidate. We encourage all candidates to submit a letter to us via email (julied@nordoniahills.news) explaining why they are running for public office.
My name is Matt Kearney and I am running for Nordonia Hills School Board. I believe that I am the best candidate given my motivation to serve and my diverse background.
I am 2008 graduate of Nordonia and current resident of Sagamore Hills with my wife Brandy and two children Lydia and James.
After graduating from Nordonia, I attended Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) where I was elected Student Government President of the Western Campus and Vice-President of the Joint Student Council. During my time at Tri-C, I also served in the U.S. Senate in the late Senator George V. Voinovich’s Office in Washington, D.C.
After Tri-C, I attended the University of Akron in 2012 and received my bachelor of arts in history, with a minor in poli-science/pre-law. During this time, I was appointed to the Student Government- Judicial Branch and served in the U.S. House of Representatives in Congressman Jim Renacci’s Office in Wadsworth.
In 2015, I graduated from the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law with a certificate of concentration in civil litigation. From 2015-16, I was employed in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, under Attorney General Mike DeWine, as a Law Clerk, and later as an Assistant Ohio Attorney General in the Criminal Division.
Since June 2016, I have been a member of the Eques, Inc. family as a Litigation Associate and now as a Litigation Partner. My areas of practice include criminal law, domestic relations, oil and gas, and civil litigation. I am admitted to the Ohio Bar, the Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern & Southern District of Ohio, and the Bar of the U.S. Circuit Court for the Sixth Circuit.
At the beginning of 2021, I had discussions with a current Nordonia Board of Education member who encouraged me to run for Board of Education. Given my drive and dedication for public service, combined with the concerns and valuable input that I share with voters, I eagerly accepted the recommendation to run for school board.
Since then, I have attended numerous board of education meetings, high school PTSA meetings, and even went on a tour of the high school facility. These opportunities have provided me with valuable input regarding issues facing the district.
I have met with dozens of voters in collecting signatures for my petitions and those same voters shared valuable input. The input from voters that I have received during this process and in the future, will greatly aid in my decision-making process should I have the opportunity to serve as a school board member.
My priorities include ensuring a strong financial future for the district so it may continue to maintain its level of excellence in education, monitor curriculum/program changes to ensure any change would benefit all students; and, look for additional ways to increase opportunities for special education/mental health programs.
With every decision made, the children in the district will remain my #1 priority. Securing a good education for all children in the district, including my own, motivates me in this process.
If you believe, as I do, that it is time to u-knight for a brighter future, please vote for me!
