Notes From The Manor presented by the Longwood Manor Historical Society

Welcome to Notes from the Manor, dedicated to the history of Longwood Manor; and its founder, Colonel William Frew Long, first mayor of the City of Macedonia. Each column will highlight an aspect of the manor house or Colonel Long. We’ll also include an update of restoration to the manor house, and a schedule of activities involving the manor property or participation. Background information on Colonel Long and the manor house comes from This Place Matters: A Biography of Colonel William Frew Long and the Story of Longwood Manor, written by John Cassmer, member and past President of Longwood Manor Historical Society. Longwood Manor Historical Society is under the auspices of the City of Macedonia Parks and Recreation Commission.

Although surrounding communities, such as Hudson and Twinsburg, have multiple restored homes and other structures, Macedonia has Longwood Manor as its only stately home.

Many people and businesses have been involved in its restoration. Much is yet to be done, and the ongoing restoration and maintenance is through volunteers and members of LMHS.

The goal is to make the house and the grounds a center for events such as meetings, weddings, concerts, and shows.

Upcoming Events you’ll want to share:

*October Saturday mornings/afternoon- football concessions. Restrooms available.

*October 15- Haunted Hallow event with Parks and Recreation. Is Longwood Manor haunted? You may see a ghost or two!

*September 17- Macedonia Fall Fest – please visit our table and speak with Society members.

Longwood Manor also features an open house on the last Sunday of the month from 1pm to 4pm during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months.
