This past weekend the Nordonia Knights boys and girls swim teams took part in the Akron Division I Sectional Swimming Tournament. The swimmers really blew the roof off the Akron University Natatorium. With almost everyone on the team swimming their lifetime best times, or season swim-times, the Knights continued to raise their opponent’s eyebrows with the girls finishing 3rd out of 16 teams and the boys finishing 4th overall.
The Northeast Ohio District Swim Meet is at Cleveland State University this weekend. Swimmers participating in this advanced swim meet are: Ari Smajlovic, Reanna Turk, Emily Yorkievitz, Hailey Kaminski, Payton Pelkowski, Abby Pohlmeyer, Madisyn Reville, Michael Gruber, Colton Frances, Noah Holtz, Jimmy Alexander, Noah Beaver, Paul Yorkievitz, and Patrick Newyear. Divers Colon Francis, Emily Schonauer, Amanda Larsen, and Loris Jensen will compete on Thursday February 16, 2023.
“Every year this team continues to amaze me”, said coach Yorkievitz, “especially as the team performs as well as they did on a big stage. It makes their hours of hard work in and out of the water worthwhile.”
Top performers at the sectional meet were Hailey Kaminski , who finished first in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Back. Emily Yorkievitz, who won the 100 freestyle event and placed second in the 200 freestyle. The Knights also won their first ever Sectional relay event with the team of Hailey Kaminski, Reanna Turk, Abby Pohlmeyer, and Emily Yorkievitz finishing first and setting a new school record in the 200 freestyle relay.
