Voice of Nordonia soccer and the band, and football spotter, recognized before last Friday’s game
Nordonia athletic director Rob Eckenrode presented Jim Virost with the Nordonia Lifetime Achievement Award before the football game Friday, Sept. 25. The plaque, from the Nordonia Hills City School District, recognizes his service to Nordonia athletics, the band and students.
Praise from the athletic director
Eckenrode said Virost made a lasting mark on the department.
“Jim has been a true asset to the Nordonia Athletic Department! His dedication to announcing soccer and spotting for football is greatly appreciated!” Eckenrode said.
Virost was the voice of Nordonia soccer. He also served as a spotter for football games.
Hundreds of games
The plaque honored Virost for “decades of selfless service, endless hours behind the scenes, and a legacy that will inspire generations of athletes.”
It thanked him for the hundreds of soccer games he announced. It also thanked him for the football games he spotted for. Spotters help broadcasters and announcers identify players on the field.
More than 20 years with the band
Virost’s work reached beyond the sidelines. The inscription credited him with more than 20 years as the voice of the Nordonia High School band.
It thanked him for “riveting and captivating introductions of the program that brought people to their feet.”
The plaque ended with a note of appreciation. “Your dedication to Nordonia Athletics, Band and Students is truly appreciated,” it read.
