Macedonia City Council: Size Matters to Council, and Resident Praises Medics, Paving Grant Request

Size matters according to a resolution passed by the Council on October 12 in opposition to H.R. 3372, which would amend Title 23 of the U.S. Code to establish a pilot program dealing with six-axle vehicles operating on  the interstate highway system.

The bill, which remains in a House subcommittee would amend weight limits on six-axle vehicles traveling on interstates, including Macedonia.

The weight of six-axle commercial vehicles would increase by 14 percent, from 80,000 pounds to 91,000 pounds.

“If the State of Ohio chose to participate in the pilot program, which increase would be potentially dangerous to the health and safety of City of Macedonia residents since the stopping distance for such vehicles would increase;” according to the resolution. “If passed, the Bill would also place approximately 2,214 local bridges at risk which have a replacement cost of over two billion dollars, and similarly jeopardize the integrity of roadway located within the City of Macedonia.”

The council’s vote was unanimous.

Medics praised for Professionalism
Council Clerk Jon Hoover read an email, from a resident, thanking Macedonia Fire Medics for their care and professionalism during a September 30 call.

“The paramedics who came to my house were extremely professional and cared for my well-being,” Hoover read. “I was concerned that I might be having a heart-related problem, and it was.”

The resident said he wanted the fire personnel to know how thankful he was.

“Please let those that came to my house know that we are really appreciative of them and the job they are doing for our community,” Hoover said.
