Nordonia Knights Host Three-Time City Champion Akron East Tonight

Nordonia seeks to build on dominant season opener against defending city series champions

Macedonia, Ohio – Fresh off a dominant 42-0 season-opening victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary, the Nordonia Knights return to Boliantz Stadium tonight to face a formidable opponent in Akron East at 7 p.m.

The Knights couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season last Friday, forcing four turnovers that led to 24 points in their shutout win. New starting quarterback Steven Fakult and wide receiver Dominick Jackson connected for the team’s first touchdown on an 18-yard slant route, setting the tone for what would become a breakout performance for several new starters.

Tonight presents a significant step up in competition. Akron East enters the contest as three-time defending city series champions, bringing a talented and experienced squad coached by the respected Coach Hayes.

“We are excited for another great Friday night at Boliantz Stadium,” said Nordonia coach Jeff Fox. “Last Friday was one of the best high school football atmospheres I’ve ever coached in. It was great to represent Northfield, Macedonia, and Sagamore Hills in such a fun way.”

Fox praised his team’s character both on and off the field, noting their hard work paying dividends in the season opener. However, he’s well aware of the challenge ahead.

“We play a new opponent, Akron East, this Friday,” Fox said. “They have been the city series champions the last three seasons. Coach Hayes brings a talented and well coached group to our game.”

The Knights will look to build on last week’s strong defensive performance, which included interceptions by Jamison Elerick and RJ Jefferson, along with a fumble recovery. Elerick’s 36-yard interception return for a touchdown highlighted a night where Nordonia’s defense completely stifled the Irish offense.

On offense, the Knights showed balance with their rushing attack and the emerging connection between Fakult and his receiving corps, including Jackson and Karsen Fisher. The offensive line, which helped Nordonia average nearly 240 rushing yards per game last season, provided solid protection throughout the opener.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia.
