North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club Opens New Facility in Northfield Village

North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club will host a grand opening celebration for its new facility Saturday, September 27 from 10-11 a.m. at the Northfield Plaza on Northfield Road.

The family-owned martial arts academy, operated by the Hido family since 2018, recently relocated to an expansive 6,000-square-foot space that owners say is among the nicest training facilities in northeast Ohio. The new location features a 45-by-36-foot main mat area and a large secondary training room, providing ample space for the academy’s growing student base.

Paul Hido runs the academy alongside his sons PJ and Kyle, all of whom bring more than two decades of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience to their instruction. The three black belt holders earned their ranks under Pedro Sauer, considered one of the most respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors worldwide.

The grand opening event will feature a free community self-defense class welcoming participants of all ages and experience levels. The demonstration will showcase the academy’s core philosophy of teaching students to become “bully-proof” through control techniques rather than striking.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes ground control and submission holds, allowing smaller practitioners to defend themselves against larger opponents through proper technique rather than brute force. This approach aligns particularly well with school anti-violence policies, as students learn to neutralize threats without throwing punches or kicks.

The academy serves students ranging from age 5 to 80, with programs designed for both children and adults. The kids’ curriculum focuses heavily on anti-bullying techniques while also incorporating basic striking and defensive tactics. Adult classes provide comprehensive martial arts training that doubles as an intense full-body workout.

The new facility includes several amenities designed with families in mind. A large pro shop offers equipment and uniforms, while a comfortable parent viewing area features tables, chairs, WiFi and television access. The space allows parents to work remotely or helps children complete homework while siblings train.

North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club promotes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as the fastest-growing martial art globally, emphasizing its accessibility across age groups and fitness levels. The academy maintains what it describes as a friendly, family-oriented culture focused on building confidence, physical fitness and practical self-defense skills.

To celebrate the new location, the academy is offering a grand opening special: six weeks of unlimited classes plus a uniform for $99, representing a significant discount from the normal $250 value. Interested participants can contact the academy at 330-406-6626, email info@northcoastbjj.com or visit northcoastbjj.com for additional information about programs and schedules.
