Macedonia police assisted firefighters at a vehicle blaze on Fairlane Drive/SR 82, then handled a shoplifting arrest at Home Depot and a late-night family disturbance on White Spruce Drive.
MACEDONIA, Ohio – Macedonia police and firefighters responded to a vehicle fire along SR 82, then handled two additional calls in recent days, including a theft in progress at Home Depot and a domestic disturbance at a residence on White Spruce Drive.
Car Fire Shuts Down SR 82
Police were dispatched at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 9 to the area of Fairlane Drive and SR 82 on a call listed as assist fire department – fire, according to a Macedonia Police call-for-service report.
Dispatch notes indicate a white Honda Sonata was on fire and that there was no one inside the vehicle. Officers and fire crews responded, and the report notes that SR 82 was shut down during the incident.
At approximately 5:47 p.m., crews had water on the fire, and by 5:55 p.m. the report indicates the fire was out. A request was also made for a tow company to respond.
The report also notes that damage occurred to the roadway and service personnel were requested to be made aware because the road may need to be patched. By about 6:26 p.m., the report indicates the road was opened again, and a service representative was expected to respond.
Police also provided assistance to an individual at the scene. Notes indicate that at 6 p.m., an officer provided a courtesy ride to Dunkin.
Theft in Progress at Home Depot Leads to Arrest
On Jan. 7 at 1:33 p.m., Macedonia officers were dispatched to Home Depot, 8211 Macedonia Commons for a theft in progress, according to an incident report.
Police said a suspect left the store with stolen merchandise after being confronted by loss prevention and ran to a vehicle described as a silver Ford sedan with an Ohio temporary tag. An officer located the vehicle nearby and conducted a traffic stop. Police reported the suspect was taken into custody without resistance and secured in a patrol vehicle.
According to the report, loss prevention staff told police the suspect entered the store carrying a single DeWalt flashlight box, then went to the tool area and switched boxes, later attempting a fraudulent return. When told identification was required, he allegedly left with tools, passing points of sale without paying.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers reported finding the stolen merchandise and suspected drug paraphernalia, including glass pipes, a metal pick fashioned from a hanger, and a spoon with burn marks and residue.
The suspect was booked at the Macedonia Police Department jail and charged through Macedonia Mayor’s Court with:

- Possession of drug paraphernalia (513.12)
Late-Night Disturbance on White Spruce Drive
Just after 2 a.m. Jan. 7, Macedonia police were dispatched to a residence on White Spruce Drive for a reported disturbance. Dispatch information indicated the homeowner was out of town and reported that his daughter was breaking items inside the home, with the daughter’s mother also on scene.
An officer met with the mother, who told police she was dog-sitting for her ex-husband and had invited their daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend to stay the night. The situation escalated after the daughter and boyfriend argued and the boyfriend left, according to the report.
Police reported the mother said she later heard her daughter upset and observed damage to drywall near a bedroom entrance. The report also states the mother told police a thrown vape pen bounced and struck her in the head, though she declined medical attention. Officers reported there was no physical altercation between the involved parties.
The homeowner was contacted and was primarily concerned about having his daughter leave the residence, according to the narrative. Police documented the damage with photos, and the daughter agreed to leave for the evening. Officers provided transport to GetGo, and the boyfriend agreed to pick her up and take her to their shared residence.
