Summit County Animal Control is joining the national Clear the Shelters campaign this August, cutting adoption fees from $96 to just $28 for the entire month.
Fee Reduction Runs All Month
County Executive Ilene Shapiro announced the discount as part of the annual effort to move more dogs into loving homes. Every adopted dog comes microchipped and fully vetted, with bloodwork, flea treatment, deworming, and spay or neuter services included. A 2026 Summit County Dog License is also part of the $28 fee.
More than 204 dogs have found homes through the shelter so far this year. Even with those successes, officials say the facility stays full as new arrivals continue to come in.
National Campaign Has Long Track Record
NBCUniversal’s Clear the Shelters campaign has run for 12 years and has helped more than 1.3 million animals find homes nationwide. Last year alone, over 1,700 shelters and rescues took part, leading to more than 160,000 adoptions and $628,000 in donations, the highest fundraising total since 2020.
How to Visit or Adopt
The shelter sits at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron and welcomes visitors seven days a week. Hours run Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are not required but are encouraged. Residents can call 330-643-2845 to schedule a visit or browse adoptable dogs online before stopping by.
