City Still Looking Into Mystery Barricades

City officials are trying to find out why recent barricades were placed at property shared by Giant Eagle, Jiffy Lube, and Dunkin Donuts near state Route 82 in Northfield Center Township.

The grocery store chain claims the barricades, which are a zoning code violation, were put in place by the property owner.

“I have sent an email to them requesting they be removed immediately since they are not only not permitted but pose a significant health and safety issue since they have cut off access for EMS of fire equipment to service either Dunkin or Jiffy Lube,” Donald Saunders, township zoning inspector, said on December 15.

According to a post by Saunders on NordoniaHills News.com, Dunkin Donuts and Jiffy Lube customers are supposed to enter at the light and go thru the Giant Eagle lot, not thru the truck drive.

Saunders said there have been too many accidents at this apron, which could be removed in the future by ODOT especially when Meijer comes in.
