The Cleveland Browns already had slim odds to win against the San Francisco 49ers before news broke that quarterback Deshaun Watson is officially out Sunday. It’s a contusion to the rotator cuff in his right shoulder (bruised shoulder).
This is a story that started when Watson was ruled out of the Baltimore Ravens game two weeks ago and Dorian Thompson-Robinson took his place at quarterback in Cleveland. The Browns ended up losing that affair in disastrous form by a score of 28-3 making their record 2-2 heading into the bye week.
Then, Watson was ruled out of practice this week and that continued each day until finally, the team ruled him out for the game against the 49ers. However, it’s PJ Walker who’ll be the starter for the Browns instead of DTR.
A lot of fans are questioning Watson’s toughness and motivation as a member of The Dawgs with what is taking place now. It goes back to the contract of 230 million dollars over five years and that is completely guaranteed money.
The Browns made a downright huge gamble with the contract and hopefully five years from now it won’t be one that is scrutinized with regret but instead is honored here in these regions.
The season really looked great after a Week 3 win against the Tennessee Titans by a score of 27-3 to put the team’s record at 2-1 that time. The defense was thriving, Watson was healthy and the year ahead looked seemingly excellent.
Now, there is still a chance that Watson will return and play well later in this season and beyond. That is the hope of Browns coaches and fans alike as this fiasco plays out.
It’s an advantage with the game being in Cleveland on Sunday and the fans yelling and screaming together. But are they going to be yelling at Watson standing on the sideline or the game itself? The man has certainly garnered a plethora of hate.
After this 49ers game, the Browns face the Indianapolis Colts on the road, then the Seattle Seahawks on the road as well, next hosting the Arizona Cardinals back at home on Week 9.
What would be most appreciated is more clarity from Watson himself in regard to this injury of said shoulder. That what is wrong is clearly spoken by himself or the team and these rumors frankly stop. It’s not good for the team or franchise as a whole and it’s going to result in losses aplenty as the season continues on.
