After a hard-fought game Wednesday night, the Nordonia Boys’ soccer team fell at home to North High School (Eastlake) in their first game with a final score of 1-0.
Although the Knights lost, they played tough throughout the course of the game. The defense played a tough game, giving up only one point within the latter part of the game.
The offense missed a couple of scoring opportunities throughout the game, which would have helped them get the win over the Rangers.
Even though the game did not go the Knights way, Head Coach Steve Toth is proud of his team.
“It was a disappointing loss”, said Head Coach Steve Toth. “The boys played well and probably deserved more from the game.”
Coach Toth continues to say how much he appreciates his players.
“Senior Brett Rapp had a quality performance in goal”, says Coach Toth. “Defensively I think we are much improved with Matt Cluse, Alex Wilms, Ryan Kudla, Sal LaGuardia, and John Wolf. Midfield performed well, especially after the loss of Carter Siliga. Our midfield consisted of Connell Raferty, Casey Edgehouse, and Riley Edgehouse. I think over time they will do nothing but improve. As they do the supply lie to our striker Jackson Kanengeiser will also. Jackson was unlucky to find the net last night, but I feel that he will get his goals as we progress through the season.”
Head Coach Steve Toth is confident his team will bounce back and make their goals for the 2023 season.
It is a while away until the end of October, giving the Knights plenty of time to focus on their team goals, and to not think too much about the season as a whole.
Considering this is early on into the season, the Knights are not looking to panic, but to instead focus on one game at a time.
It is a long season ahead as the Knights will now begin to focus on their next game which is against Bedford High School.
They will be getting a second opportunity at home to possibly get into the win column versus Bedford.
This can be a speedy recovery to a win for the Knights as this game against Bedford will take place Thursday, August 16, 2023, at 6p.m.
The quick turnaround awaits the Knights as Coach Toth, and the boys shake this first game off, and find a way to bounce back Thursday night.
