Olivia May, the distinguished cross-country athlete from Nordonia High School, was the sole representative from her squad to qualify for the OHSAA Regional Meet.
The event took place on October 28, 2023, at the Boardman HS XC Course in Youngstown, OH. She competed in the Division I 5000-meter race alongside 183 other girls from various schools in the region.
Despite her impressive performance, May couldn’t secure a spot in the OHSAA State Meet, scheduled for November 4, 2023, at the National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH. Olivia finished the race in 117th place, completing the course in 21 minutes and 13.40 seconds.
She tied with Alanya Yanmaz from Medina, with both athletes scoring 105 points. Alanya narrowly beat Olivia by 0.10 seconds, finishing in 21 minutes and 13.30 seconds.
Unfortunately, May’s performance didn’t place her among the top 20 individuals who qualified for the state meet. The fastest runner in the race was Daniela Scheffler from Uniont Lake, with a time of 18:24.10. Wadsworth claimed first place with 140 points and an average time of 19:33.
