The Cleveland Browns beat the Arizona Cardinals at home by a score of 27-0. It was an
impressive win against a lowly team with quarterback Deshaun Watson finally back under center. The pass-thrower went 19/30 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He did miss some throws that should’ve been made, but it was overall a good day.
Now, Watson and the Browns have a huge test against the Baltimore Ravens on the road at M&T Bank Stadium next Sunday at one. The Ravens just beat Seattle by a score of 37-3 to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Yes, it was great to see the Browns getting a blowout win, but let’s be honest. The Cardinals are absolutely terrible and the Browns were simply taking care of business. After the game against the Ravens, the Browns then face the Pittsburgh Steelers (currently 5-3 on the season) in Cleveland at one.
With the AFC North being so competitive, these upcoming matchups are so crucial for the team in the coming weeks. The Browns will really have competition in the coming battles ahead.
Finally, Watson was able to play in a game and didn’t get injured either. That’s what this team needs from the man making 230 million guaranteed with his contract.
The Browns saw an epic performance from the defense in the Cardinals game. Cleveland only gave up 58 total yards, had seven sacks and just allowed seven first downs on the afternoon. Those are absolutely incredible numbers. Keep in mind these Cardinals are a lowly franchise and that is why these upcoming matchups are so crucial.
What Deshaun Watson and company can prove in the coming weeks is just how great a team these Browns really are especially on offense. The defense is certainly known to be successful, it’s the offense that’s a question mark with the quarterback position always uncertain.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see just how great players such as wide receiver Amari Cooper, who had five receptions for 139 yards and a score against the Cardinals, against the tougher opponents in the AFC North.
If the Browns are able to take victories in Baltimore and versus the Steelers they’ll be 7-3 on the season with matchups following against Denver on the road, in LA against the Rams, then versus Jacksonville, Chicago, at Houston, Versus the NY Jets and finishing off the season in Cincinnati in a battle that certainly could have playoff implications.
Fans love to hate on Watson and rightfully so frankly. The quarterback has the opportunity to prove his worth here in Cleveland and he has a great defense to battle with him this season. Let’s see what can be done with these tests. It’s not an easy division and making it to the playoffs will take big, big, wins against the best of the best.
Deshaun, a great win against a terrible team. It’s time to prove it against those that matter most in the coming weeks. Let’s see what can be done and if you’re truly valuable or sadly not able to contend against the great ones.
