The Nordonia High School Girls Flag Football Team finished their regular season up on Easter Sunday playing 3 games and improving their record to 7-2 on the season.
The Knights faced an undefeated Massillon team in their first game. Senior Kami Jackson connected with Senior Audrey Tyukodi for the Knights first score of the game. Jackson then threw to Sophomore Ella McCabe for the extra point. Massillon scored another TD but Junior Amanda Larson sacked the QB to prevent the extra point. Freshman Kenzie Ekis intercepted Massillon on their next drive. Jackson then handed it off to Junior Avery Holtz, who ran it in for a touchdown. On the next offensive drive for the Knights, Jackson connected with Holtz for a 25 yard touchdown pass. It wasn’t enough for the Knights though as they fell to Massillon, 33-19, in only their second loss of the season.
The Knights were able to shake off the Massillon loss right away when on the first play of the next game against Glenville, Senior Elise Fletcher had an interception that set the offense up for success. Unfortunately, the Knights were not able to capitalize on that field position to score. Glenville got the ball back and tried to go deep but Sophomore Olivia Beery intercepted and ran the ball back to again put the Knights in position to score. Once again, the Knights were not able to get any points after the turnover. But the defense wasn’t giving up, on the first play of the next drive, Junior Madisyn Reville had another interception for the Knights. This time the offense answered with an amazing run by Junior Charlotte Naymik which resulted in a touchdown. On the next offensive drive, McCabe had a long run but was stopped just short of the goal line. On the next play, Jackson made a short pass to Tyukodi and the Knights were up 12-0. That was all that was needed for the victory as that remained the final score.
The third game of the day was just a defensive battle against Akron Early. The first and only score of the game came on a 25 yard pass play from Jackson to McCabe at the end of the first half. That was followed by an extra point pass from Jackson to McCabe to make it 7-0 which was the final score.
The Knights are moving on to Round 1 of the playoffs where they will face Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at Brush High School at 2pm on Sunday, 5/4.
