My New Little Friend

By Nicholette Marbley

I used to wake up at six every morning, shower, drink my Jasmine tea infused with matcha collagen, and end my morning routine with a yoga morning salutation on my deck every day. My morning routine has changed for the better thanks to the hummingbird feeders I placed outside my home.  My new friend is not a hummingbird. Hummingbirds do not seem to like my new feeders. Believe it or not, my hummingbird feeders have brought a baby squirrel into my life. While meditating outside, I felt something furry brush past my back. I opened my eyes, and to my delight, a baby squirrel was at the edge of my deck—the critter was peering into a pot looking for nectar. My daily visits are something I look forward to every day. I have considered keeping the squirrel as a house pet, but I have way too many as it is. Now, instead of wishing to attract hummingbirds, I get a small bowl, pour in nectar, sit out an apple and enjoy my daily dose of cuteness. Moving my yoga routine inside is more than worth it.
