The stay at home order is officially over, but many of us are still choosing to stay at home, including me. I took time over the weekend to watch The Secret. The Secret is a Netflix documentary about finding the secret to being successful in everything you do. Not only is it vague, but in my opinion, it encourages you to live childlike fantasies and think unrealistic thoughts. Here are some examples of the ridiculous things this documentary puts out:
- The Law of attraction-” Whatever is going on in your mind, you are attracting it to you.” I wish that were the case! I would have a stud on my arm, a private island, and unlimited amounts of money! This pseudo-science is a great way to stay positive, but it is super unrealistic.
- The three-step creative process to attract success is: Ask. Believe. Receive. This segment of the documentary was the equivalent of reading a fairytale! No mention of working hard or making a plan! All these people want you to do is wish on stars.
- The final thing that turned me off was this super convenient made-up story that’s supposed to sucker people into buying their crap. This businessman begins telling a story of a magic rock a foreigner had given him, and the following week the rock gave off “good vibes” he received money for his investment. His mantra is,” Believe and Receive.”
So, after watching this film, I’ve come up with the conclusion that this documentary was released to give helpless people hope or swindle an idiot out of money. If you’re thinking of starting a pyramid scheme or getting someone to join in working for one, this is the video for you! But please don’t do that, have some dignity, morals, and respect.
