No Green Thumb? No problem. Bring the spring inside your home with these helpful tips. Pull out that antique milk jug, or large decorative pot that has been gathering dust, or purchase one at a nearby store. This one ceramic piece can add a pop of versatility to decorate your home when the seasons change. Need something to do with those fresh Mother’s Day bouquets as they start to wilt? Read on for some tips.

With so many silk flower arrangements to choose from, from cheerful daisies to groups of hydrangeas, there are varieties of each available in many different colors, to bring a touch of cheery Spring to your indoors! Choose some of your favorites to add to the mix. You will enjoy them for quite some time without worry of them wilting, and dropping petals.

Why wait for spring to bloom outside when you can bring it indoors? No water is needed, and neither is sunshine (which is good because it’s been raining cats and dogs outside). The ceramic milk jug or flower pot is your empty vessel to be filled with whatever colorful varieties of flowers you shall choose. Change them out regularly as seasons change.

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, think of what you might do with those beautiful flower arrangements you may get as gifts. They can be hung upside down, fastened with a rubber band, in a cool dark area of your home, that is well-ventilated so that they can dry out. Be sure to strip the flowers of leaves that have wilted or sat in water too long, and cut them to desired lengths before drying them.

Hang them somewhere away from direct sunlight to help them retain their color. The drying out process will take two to three weeks, a month at the most. Roses dry very well and retain their color nicely, as do some greenery.

Once the floral arrangements are completely dried, take them down, and spray them in an open area that is well- ventilated (outdoors is safest), while protecting the area around you from overspray. Use an enamel type of floral spray to protect them from losing petals. There are also drying powders that can be purchased at a craft store instead of using the sprays. A couple of websites state that an unscented aerosol hairspray will also work, but for best results use an enamel type of spray that will harden the petals and protect them nicely.

Adding a pop of color to your home needn’t any sunshine or rain with these tips and tricks. Use colors and arrangements that make you smile when you see them. Put them in a space where they can be enjoyed most often. Choose bunches of flowers mixed with single flowers, baby’s breath, greens, some short and some taller, to create depth to your Spring centerpieces.
