The 2023 soccer season has come to a close for the Nordonia Knights as they fought hard to end the year.
The boys finished with a final record of (5-12-2), with a conference record of (1-6).
The Knights finished the season with a 32% winning percentage with a home record of (3-5-1) and an away record of (2-7-1).
In the previous article regarding the boys’ soccer season, they finished with a tie against Cuyahoga Falls with a final score of 0-0.
With four games remaining after their tie, the Knights lost three of their final four games.
The Knights suffered losses to Benedictine (Cleveland) with a final score of 4-1, and Brecksville-Broadview Heights (Broadview Heights) by a final score of 3-1.
The Knights final win of the season was against Perry (Massillon) where the Knights won by a final score of 2-1.
Their final game approached right after the win against Perry (Massillon) where the Knights fell to Riverside by a final score of 5-1.
Boys’ Soccer Head Coach Steve Toth had some final emotional remarks on the ending of the season.
“We suffered a very disappointing loss in the second round of the playoffs Saturday night”, says Head Coach Steve Toth.
“We took a gamble this year and passed up an opportunity for a first-round home game to give us an opportunity to get beyond the second round. We upset #10 Perry-Massillon away in the first round. After losing to them in the regular season all the coaches felt the boys had it in them to get the win against Perry.”
“However, we just could not duplicate the performance in the second round against Riverside-Painesville. The boys fought hard but fell short in the end 5-1. We had a lot of teary-eyed seniors because it was their last game and the goal, we set to get to the third round fell short. It will be a game I will second guess myself for a long time. On the positive side this year has been one of the best groups of kids I have coached. They battled game in and game out regardless of the outcome and never gave up.”“Next year we will be very young graduating 10 seniors, all of whom were regulars. Next year I would expect to be about 70 to 80 percent freshman and sophomores. We lost a lot of experience, but that is the exciting part of high school soccer. You are always building for the future.”
With the 2023 season now at an end, the Nordonia Knights boys’ soccer team will now look to rebuild for next year!
