Nordonia Boys Varsity Basketball Wins 66-64 Against Stow in Triple OT in Game Where Every Second Counted

The enthusiasm and excitement pierced the air at the Stow-Monroe Falls High School gymnasium, where Nordonia and Stow went neck and neck throughout the regulation game, and on into triple overtimes. It was a close game but not one spectator dared leave early, for fear they may miss something, in a game where every second counted!

The Stow student cheering sections chanting, “you can’t do that!” as Nordonia fouled one of their players, and our student section cheering back “go defense” in a tit for tat game of basketball.

Senior #1 Landon Naylor led Nordonia in scoring with 20 pts., while Senior #21 Mitchell Wiecheki led with 12 rebounds.

The Friday night basketball regulation ended with 43-43, just before it went into the first overtime.

  • First OT ended with Stow scoring one point to tie it 49-49 with four seconds left.
  • Second OT Stow 58, Nordonia 55 with 28 seconds left, as Sophomore #3 Trevor Turnbull scored a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left, tying the game at 60-60.
  • Triple OT ends Game with Nordonia 66- Stow 64 as Senior #23 Liam Gopalakrishna drove the ball to the net, scoring a much needed 2-pointer surging Nordonia into the lead over Stow with 1.6 seconds left in the game finale.

This win puts the Nordonia overall record to 9-W, 1-L, Second Suburban-National Conference 5-0.
