The Nordonia High School Drama Club is thrilled to announce their long awaited musical return with this year’s spring production of Once Upon a Mattress. This comedic and family friendly show takes the classic fairy tale story of the Princess and the Pea and turns it on its head. Don’t be Shy, come on in and join us this April 8th-10th.
Many moons ago, in a far off place…King Sextimus (Richie Nyce) has fallen under a curse, and is left unable to speak. His domineering wife, Queen Aggravain (Leah Jackson) rules the kingdom and has decreed that no one may wed until a suitable princess can be found for Prince Dauntless (Jacob Filisky). Princesses come and go, unable to pass the Queen’s challenges. Things are looking hopeless, until one day word comes of the arrival of Princess Winnifred the Woebegone (Libby Herberth). Will she be able to pass the Queen’s test? For after all…a genuine princess is exceedingly rare.
Rounding out the remainder of the leading cast are: Isabella Zeman and Elliot Marchant as Lady Larken and Sir Harry, Stella Naymik as The Jester, Ella Bozan as The Minstrel and Caeden Bolling as the Wizard. Another 25 cast members take on the roles of knights and ladies in waiting. In addition to the cast, there are another 40 students working offstage as members of the crews, running tech, and playing in the orchestra.
This year, we are excited to once again be participating in the Dazzle Awards at Playhouse Square! The Dazzle Awards are high school musical theatre awards for Northeast Ohio, and after our four nominations for 2019’s The Wizard of Oz, including Best Musical, we are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to showcase the incredible talent at Nordonia!
Helming this year’s musical production is Nordonia High School’s Director of Drama, Chris Simmons. Megan Gargano returns as Choreographer and Assistant Director while Bill Shaffer is back as Vocal Director and is also overseeing our student orchestra, with the assistance of Ryan Dulaney.
