The Winter Sports season has now begun as the Nordonia Knights begin their Ice Hockey season for the 2023-2024 season.
A quick recap from last year, the Knights finished their 2022-2023 Ice Hockey season with an overall record of (15-9) and a conference record of (9-1).
With a strong season in 2022-2023, the Nordonia Knights look to have an even stronger season this year, with some new players on the roster this season.
Unfortunately, in their first game, the Knights fell at home to the Chagrin Falls High School Tigers by a final score of 7-1. This was only the first game, as the Knights have plenty of time to bounce back.
The Knights are starting their 2023-2024 season with some high expectations, and have plenty of time to bounce back as an entire season awaits ahead.
Over the weekend, the Knights participated in a Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament where the Knights competed with a tough task.
Head Coach Rich Cinalli had some positive words to say about his players and the season thus far.
“In our first win against Mayfield, Goalie Preston Kanar earned his first high school win as a goalie, “says Head Coach Rich Cinalli. “This team will look to be more defensive minded during games. We brought in some new players as 5 of our players graduated last year. Our team is a good skating team as the new players are doing well. Being established in 2007, we are three-time division winners, and we look to make that number four this year.”
During the Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament over the weekend, the Knights won their first game against Mayfield High School with a final score of 11-5.
Sophomore Preston Kanar is a first-time goalie earning his first high school win. In their second game of the tournament, the Knights lost in a shootout to Aurora, but that did not stop the fight for Kanar as he recorded 26 saves in the game.
The Knights struggled as of late in their third game of the tournament as they were defeated by Westlake with a final score of 11-4. They were tied 3-3 after the first period, then grabbed a 4-3 lead before Westlake scored 8 unanswered goals the rest of the way.
The Ice Hockey Knights’ next two games will take place on Saturday and Sunday this upcoming weekend.
They will face Mayfield High School in a rematch on Saturday December 2, 2023, at 3:30p.m.
Sunday, the Knights will play Orange High School on December 3, 2023, at 7:30pm.m
Let’s hope the Knights can get on a winning streak and win both of their games this weekend!
