This past weekend, from Friday, January 5, 2024, to Saturday, January 6, 2024, the Nordonia Knights wrestling team participated in the prestigious Perrysburg Invitational Tournament held at Perrysburg High School. This highly competitive event saw participation from 48 teams, showcasing a wide array of wrestling talent.
The team scores at the end of day one were highly competitive, with Perrysburg leading the pack with 105.0 points. The Nordonia Knights held a respectable position, ranking 7th with 67.0 points amidst strong contenders like Great Crossing, Napoleon, and Wauseon. Other notable teams included Genoa Area, Bellevue, Centerville, Upper Arlington, and Liberty Center.
The Nordonia Knights had an outstanding tournament, ultimately finishing in a tie for fifth place. A number of wrestlers from Nordonia stood out and helped propel the team to victory. It was a major win for the squad when I. Petite won the 150-pound division. In the 165-pound division, M. Hamad came in fourth. In the heavier weight divisions, G. Lefeld placed 4th in the 215-pound class and A. Wilson in the 285-pound class.
The junior star Marcus Blaze led Perrysburg to victory in the event and the team title on their own courts. They won with a huge 258 points, a lot more than Medina Highland in second place (162 points) and Napoleon in third place (159 points). The final matches were shown under two sets of spotlights in front of an amazing crowd of about 2,500 people.
The tournament saw intense competition, with several wrestlers falling short in the blood round. Perrysburg had a particularly strong showing, with four wrestlers reaching the finals and three securing victories. Congratulations to all the wrestlers for their efforts and achievements!
