Northeast Ohio Mom Launches Free Weekly Family Guide to Help Parents Discover Local Events, Hidden Gems and Affordable Adventures

WALTON HILLS, Ohio (October 30, 2026) – With thousands of recreational opportunities spread across Northeast Ohio, finding something to do as a family isn’t necessarily difficult. Knowing where to look, what’s happening this weekend and which activities are worth the trip can be another story.

Carey Ann George, a Walton Hills mother and founder of Moms of Northeast Ohio, is working to make that process easier with the launch of the Weekly NEO Family Guide, a free newsletter featuring family-friendly events, outdoor adventures, local discoveries and practical weekend recommendations.

The first edition, released October 30, focuses on Halloween weekend activities across the region.

The project grew out of a familiar question in the Moms of Northeast Ohio Facebook community: “What should we do this weekend?”

Rather than sending parents searching through dozens of event calendars, websites and social media posts, George began organizing recommendations into a single weekly resource.

“Northeast Ohio has so many incredible places that families drive right past without knowing they’re there,” George said. “Some of the best experiences don’t cost anything. I wanted to make it easier for parents to find those places, spend time together and discover more of what’s right in our own backyard.”

A Region Full of Opportunities

Northeast Ohio’s outdoor recreation numbers illustrate the scale of what’s available to local families.

According to Cleveland Metroparks, its park system encompasses more than 25,000 acres across 18 reservations and over 330 miles of trails, attracting more than 19 million recreational visits annually.

Summit Metro Parks reported approximately 5 million visits in 2025, with more than 33,000 participants in 1,086 naturalist-led programs.

The region’s attractions and local businesses also play a significant economic role. Destination Cleveland reports that Cuyahoga County welcomed 18.9 million visits in 2025, with visitors spending approximately $7 billion at area businesses.

For George, those numbers highlight something more personal: the remarkable number of places families can explore close to home.

From Mom-to-Mom Recommendations to a Regional Resource

The Weekly NEO Family Guide combines local event research with recommendations drawn from George’s own experiences and conversations within the Moms of Northeast Ohio community.

Each edition is designed to include weekend events, free or inexpensive activities, a rainy-day alternative, a featured hike or waterfall, and a local restaurant worth considering.

Event details are checked against official sources before publication, with families encouraged to reconfirm schedules, admission prices and availability before traveling.

The newsletter is part of a broader project at MomsOfNortheastOhio.com, where families can explore regional waterfalls, hiking trails, playgrounds, restaurant reviews and local businesses.

The website also features a Discovery Map and a Plan Our Day tool intended to help parents discover destinations and organize outings.

In the Facebook community, members exchange firsthand recommendations about everything from stroller-friendly trails and lesser-known parks to seasonal festivals, orchards, playgrounds and neighborhood restaurants.

George gathers those conversations into resources that other families can use.

“Sometimes the most helpful recommendation comes from another mom who has actually been there with her kids,” George said. “She knows whether the trail is manageable, whether there’s a bathroom nearby, or whether a restaurant is genuinely family-friendly. That’s the kind of information that makes a difference when you’re planning a day out.”

Supporting Families and the Local Community

George also hopes the guide will help introduce families to independently owned businesses and lesser-known destinations that may not have the visibility of larger attractions.

The project emphasizes accessible experiences, including free outdoor recreation and affordable activities, alongside opportunities to explore restaurants, shops and community events.

“My goal isn’t to tell families they need to spend more money or fill every weekend with activities,” George said. “It’s to help them realize how much is already available around them, make planning less overwhelming and encourage families to get out and make memories together.”

The Weekly NEO Family Guide is free to read and is scheduled for publication each week.
