PROPERTY DAMAGE

Promise of free roof inspection raises storm: An Eagleton Court resident was contacted September 4, by an insurance company representative, who knocked on her door, promising free roof inspections after a recent storm.

The man alleged to have found an undisclosed amount of damage from the storm.  The homeowner was advised to contact her own insurance company to file a claim.  The woman complied.

However, her insurance company did not believe the damage was consistent with storm damage and, along with an engineer, the damage was determined to have been man-made. The insurance company advised her to file a report. No further action taken.

FRAUD

Identification gets online thief $13,000 line of credit: A Macedonia man told police November 2, that someone had opened an online credit card in his name with more than a $13,000 limit. The man discovered the fraud while opening his mail and seeing a bill for a credit card he did not have.

The man contacted the credit card company which said the card was opened in October 2020.

The man told police he had been receiving mail from the card company; however, he had been cutting them up, due to him not having an account.

More than 20 charges were made in and around the Mount Vernon, New York area. The credit card company also told the man a $6,750 payment was made on the card’s balance on April 12, 2021.

The man filed a report and turned the information over to police.
