Both teams were strong on the bump on Tuesday, but Nordonia Varsity Knights defeated Twinsburg 2-1. Evan Leitner started the game for Nordonia Varsity Knights and recorded 18 outs.
Nordonia Varsity Knights didn’t take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at one in the top of the seventh when Ben Chesser drew a walk, scoring one run.
Twinsburg got on the board in the third inning after JD Okuma singled, scoring one run.
Nordonia Varsity Knights captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the seventh after Michael Wolff singled down the right field line, and Chesser walked, each scoring one run.
Leitner earned the win for Nordonia Varsity Knights. The hurler gave up four hits and one run over six innings, striking out three and walking three. Cole Kramer took the loss for Twinsburg. The hurler went one inning, surrendering two runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Owen Shinada opened the game for Twinsburg. The starter gave up seven hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Wolff collected the save.
Nordonia Varsity Knights piled up nine hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Justin Smigel led Nordonia Varsity Knights with two hits in four at bats. Wolff led Nordonia Varsity Knights with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day.
Okuma went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
Nordonia Varsity Knights welcome Twinsburg on Thursday for their next game.
