Summit County is kicking off autumn with a deal for animal lovers. County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Summit County Animal Control launched a monthlong adoption promotion called Fur the Love of Fall.
Starting September 1, residents can adopt a dog for $28. That is a savings of $68 off the regular $96 adoption fee.
What Is Included in the Fee
The reduced fee covers everything a new pet needs to settle in at home. Every dog is microchipped and fully vetted, which includes bloodwork, flea treatment, intestinal deworming, spay or neuter surgery and vaccinations. A 2026 Summit County Dog License is also included in the price.
Shapiro said the timing lines up with everything the season has to offer. “Whether you’re exploring a pumpkin patch, taking a walk through the changing leaves, or simply enjoying a cozy day at home, an adopted dog can quickly become your new best friend,” she said. “This fall, consider adding a little more fur, fun, and love to your family!”
How to Adopt
Residents can browse adoptable dogs online or visit the shelter in person. Appointments are not required, though the county encourages them. Those interested can call 330 643 2845 to schedule a visit.
The shelter is located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron. Adoption hours run seven days a week: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The promotion runs through Wednesday, September 30.
