Obituary: THOMAS W. MALANEY, JR.

THOMAS W. MALANEY, JR., age 95, beloved husband of the late Dorothy (DeMore); loving father of John (Jo Anne), Diane Forro (Edward) and Marilyn Smeal (Richard); cherished grandfather of Shannon Mentzel (Adam), John Malaney (Colene), Edward Forro (Carolyn) and Nick Forro (Erin); adored great-grandfather of 9; dearest brother of the late Russell, Kenneth, Jane and June. Tom lived an extraordinary life, joining the USMC at the age of 18, he served from 1942-46 and saw combat in Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima with the 4th Marine Division. Upon returning to the States, he enjoyed playing baseball for the Marine Corp, and gave up a possible career in professional baseball to pursue his college degree. He held his private pilots license and flew for many years, often taking his kids up and “letting them have at it at the controls”. An avid golfer, he loved to walk 18 holes of golf, ice skate and downhill ski; he enjoyed these activities until his late 80’s. When he hit 90, he thought he would stick to swimming, which he did each day up to his last. He loved his family and never forgot a birthday. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life, to be announced at a later date. Semper Fi Dad, Grandpa and Great grandpa, you will be so missed.
