We have had many questions and concerns about the paving being done in Macedonia. Roads such as Laurel that were grinded, do not have the final surface course. We asked Council President Nick Molnar to clarify the paving process.
There have been many questions regarding the paving taking place in Macedonia and I’d like to explain the process. Currently, the process we are using is called cold in place recycling. The way this process works is the machine mills the road, then takes the grindings and adds emulsions to it and puts it back down onto the road. The company does a proof roll to determine any areas that require a full depth repair. After those repairs are made, a scratch coat will be placed on the road and then a surface course. All roads being repaired were cored to determine the necessary and appropriate fix by our engineer. Many questions have arose about when a full depth repair is necessitated and that is when there is a failure in the base. We would not pave over a failed base. This is not choosing a cheap method by any means and what we are doing is built to last for many years as recommended by our engineer and the industry.
