Monthly Challenges

For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Color the coded hearts for February.

Ohio’s Romantic Tragedies

Historian and performer Jim Kleefeld’s Ohio-centric stories of love from the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s have it all – courtship, marriage, heartbreak, death, rekindling and despair. See artifacts from real-life couples, and hear their intriguing tales of love, romance and subsequent tragedy. Wednesday, February 5, 6:30 p.m.

Baby Time

Baby Time features books, bounces, songs, and bubbles, followed by a playtime. Baby Time is for children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Thursdays, February 6 – February 20, 10:15 a.m.

Toddler and Preschool Story Time

Story time features stories, rhymes, music, sometimes flannels, and bubbles followed by a playtime. Story Time is for children ages 2- 5 with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent, or caregiver. Thursdays, February 6-February 20, 11:30 a.m.

Monday Casual Reads

Join us the second Monday of each month for book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss Map of the Heart by Susan Wiggs on Monday, February 10 at 2 p.m.

Family Night

Family of all ages come together for some great crafts. One Monday a month at 6 p.m. Monday, February 10 – Make a button frame for your sweetie.

2020 Medicare Updates and Overview

The Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. Whether you are new or currently on Medicare, attendees can learn more about recent Medicare plan changes and updates for the new year. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Tuesday, February 11, 6 p.m.

Stitch Clique

Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, February 11, 6-8 p.m.

Socrates Café

Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion

Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our next discussion is Thursday, February 13 at 2 p.m. to discuss Educated by Tara Westover.

Nordonia Hills Game Time

Join our regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, February 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Dungeons and Dragons

We are gathering Monday, February 17, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join our quest at your own peril! For more information, please ask Mistress Sue.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills

Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 19.

Preparing Your Estate Plan

Do you know where your assets will go when you die? If not, this seminar will help familiarize you with the basic steps of estate planning, including the function of a will and the different types of trusts. An estate-planning attorney will be present at this event. Thursday, February 20, 6 p.m.

Messy Monday

Join us for some messy fun, one Monday a month at 6 p.m. Remember to wear some old clothes, you may get messy. We will do marble art on Monday, February 24 at 6 p.m.

Paws for Reading

Read a book to Sweetie, certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Monday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussion

The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be on The Woman in the Water by Charles Finch on Wednesday, February 26, 6:30 p.m.

Northfield Elementary: One School, One Book

March 6 – March 28. One School, One Book is a program that promotes literacy by having families, schools, and communities read the same book at the same time. The book selection is a secret until the kick-off assembly at the beginning of March. We will be hosting some activities that relate to the 2020 book. Students will get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize for participating in the library activities. Winners will be announced at the One School One Book closing assembly. March 6 – March 14 – Craft at coloring table.

After School Program

Grades K-5 can join us one Wednesday of the month after school at 4 pm for some fun activities. On Wednesday, March l1 at 4 p.m., make a top spinner using cd’s.

Crafters’ Corner

Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, March 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parachute Play

We will use music and movement to play parachute games. Toddler parachute play is for ages 2-5. Thursday, March 19, 11 a.m.

Teens Do Something

Need volunteer hours? Join us Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Some of the projects we’ll be doing are making library decorations, cleaning shelves, and making toys for Akron Children’s Hospital. Contact Miss Sue with any questions.

Science Saturday: Experimental Play

Join us for great hands on STEAM fun see what new “toys” have been added! Saturday, March 28, 2:30 p.m.
