Read This Before You Toss Those Pumpkins

Pumpkin Treats for Your Pooches

What will you do with all of those pumpkins once Halloween and Thanksgiving are over?  Will you cut into the ones you laid out just for décor? Did you know that many dogs love the taste of pumpkin? It is a healthy treat as well.

Pumpkin is a good treat for dogs and we aren’t talking about Snoopy from Peanuts!  It is high in Vitamin A, C and E, iron and potassium, and the digestive fiber it contains-helps intestinal health.

Too much of anything is not good to have of course and the same is true for pumpkin given to your pooches.  Too much pumpkin can lead to vomiting, indigestion, and blockages, along with other symptoms.

Not only should the pumpkin be plain, unsweetened, or raw (yes even the jack o’ lanterns you carved, as long as they haven’t gone bad), but it can be eaten in small amounts by our pet pooches. They can eat it along with their favorite dog food, or by itself.  The fiber content can help fill the dog up, which can help stabilize weight and control appetites.  Some pet owners even make their own dog biscuits with pumpkin in them.

Not sure how to make dog treats shaped like biscuits?  They now have dog biscuit makers that look a lot like those cake pop makers where you pour the contents into the shapes, close the lid and wait while they bake!  Easy-Peasy! It might just be cheaper to make your own biscuits rather than buying them.  Chances are your pet will smell the pumpkin aroma as it wafts through the air and your home will smell like all things Fall.
