The Nordonia Knights finished the regular season swim schedule this past weekend with the girls and boys both defeating Western Reserve Academy and Aurora High School on Senior Night. Earlier this month the girls team defeated Hudson, Stow, and North Royalton in dual meet scoring to finish undefeated (7 and 0) in the Suburban League conference to go along with their first-place finish at the conference tournament, locking up sole possession of the conference title. The girls finished 11 and 1 overall. The boys finished third place in the conference with a dual meet record of 5 and 2 in the conference and 10 and 2 overall. “This season has been a historical one for sure but tonight was all about celebrating our seniors”, commented Coach Yorkievitz. “These were the kids that really changed the culture of the team and allowed us to achieve the success we have had”, Coach Glenn added. Senior Boys -Noah Holtz, Brayden Mellott, and Jimmy Alexander, along with Senior girls- Kyla Geiger, Sophia Fiorucci, Gabrielle Simpson, Mallory Ralls, Ari Smajlovic, Reanna Turk, Jacie Soltis, Allison Schlueter, and Julia Porto Cortes all competed in their final regular season swim meets of their career.
Now that the regular season is over it’s all about getting ready for the post season where the Knights look to improve on their tenth-place finish from a year ago. “We had a record number of swimmers and divers attend the district meet a year ago and we are hoping to increase that this year”, Coach Glenn stated. Swimmers and divers to watch come post season for the boys are Noah Holtz, Noah Beaver, Paul Yorkievitz, Patrick Newyear, and Logan Welch. For the girls Hailey Kaminski, Emily Yorkievitz Ari Smajlovic, Abby Pohlmeyer, and Amanda Larsen look to have strong performances as well.
The boys and girls swim team will compete next at the Sectional Tournament at Akron University on February 10th … and then compete at the District Tournament at Cleveland State University on February 17th, 2024….
