County Executive and Animal Control provide free pet food and supplies to hurricane victims

SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Animal Control recently worked with Keller Farms and Whispering Acres Animal Sanctuary to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Helene. In total, Summit County Animal Control donated 11 pallets of animal food, litter, cages, and other equipment to help in the relief efforts. Animal Control supplied food for dogs, cats, waterfowl, rabbits, horses, and other animals.

“Once we saw the damage in the aftermath of the hurricane, we knew we had to do something,” said County Executive Shapiro. “Summit County steps up when we see communities in need.”

This donation is going towards “Farmers Helping Farmers – Hurricane Helene Relief”, which is also delivering medical supplies, feed, and other supplies for residents impacted by the disaster. The caravan, organized by Keller Farms, will deliver at least 33 trucks, including 2 semis, to Boone, North Carolina on October 15. This effort is just one of many focused on responding to the need in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Animal Control has been a part of the Greater Good Charities GOODS program since 2022. The GOODS program provides pet supplies like food and litter to distribute to local rescues and pantries to stretch dollars and assist more pets and people. Since joining, Animal Control has provided hundreds of thousands of pounds of food and supplies to residents and local nonprofits.
