Multi Agency Response Closes Highway for Nearly Four Hours Overnight
One person is dead and three others were hospitalized after a wrong way crash shut down a stretch of Interstate 480 in Macedonia overnight.
The Crash
Macedonia Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched at approximately 9:42 p.m. to Interstate 480 eastbound near the 32.6 mile marker for a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries. Responders arriving on scene found a two vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan. Preliminary investigation indicates the pickup truck crossed the center median from the westbound lanes and struck the eastbound sedan head on.
One occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three additional occupants were transported to area hospitals. CPR was performed on one of those occupants during the response. A fourth occupant was medically evaluated and cleared at the scene.
At this time, the identities of all parties involved have not been released.
Investigation and Mutual Aid Response
The Summit Metro Crash Response Team responded to investigate, and that investigation remains ongoing. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
Macedonia Police and Fire were assisted at the scene by the Twinsburg Police and Fire Departments, Oakwood Village Police and Fire Departments, Northfield Village Fire Department, and Bedford Heights Fire Department.
Road Closure
The scene was cleared and Interstate 480 reopened to traffic at approximately 1:30 a.m., after nearly four hours closed to travelers in the area.
