Board of education introduces the newest staff members, with roles spanning elementary intervention to middle school English
Nordonia Hills City Schools introduced seven new teachers at a recent board of education meeting. The group includes intervention specialists, a school counselor, a music teacher and an English teacher, and they will work across four buildings in the district.
Board members and administrators shared each teacher’s background and a personal fun fact as part of the introduction. Below is a look at each new hire.
Megan Adams, Ledgeview Elementary intervention specialist
Adams earned her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University. She previously taught for one year each at Washington Local School District and Licking Heights Local School District. Adams said, “I have a twin sister.”
Amanda Gardner, middle school counselor
Gardner holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Akron. Her previous experience includes six years at Coventry, two years at Lake and one year at Barberton. She once threw out a first pitch at a Rubberducks game alongside Jim Tressel.
Lauren York, middle school intervention specialist
York earned her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and her master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. She spent 10 years teaching at Akron Public Schools before joining Nordonia. York said she enjoys spending free time outdoors with her two dogs, along with painting, photography, cooking and DIY home projects.
Mira Momayez, Nordonia Middle School seventh grade English
Momayez graduated from Kent State University. This is her first year in the classroom. She said, “I am from Pittsburgh.”
Julia Beck, Northfield Elementary music teacher
Beck earned her bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace University and her master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. She spent eight years teaching at Richland School District Two in Columbia, South Carolina. Over the summer, Beck learned to play mahjong, which she said has quickly become one of her favorite hobbies.
Allison Coneglio, Rushwood intervention specialist
Coneglio earned her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. This is her first year teaching. A Nordonia graduate herself, she finished high school in the district in 2022.
Mya Sopata, Rushwood and Ledgeview part time kindergarten
Sopata graduated from the University of North Florida. This is her first year teaching, and she will also help coach volleyball. She has a puppy named Theodore.
