Knights are 6-1 and face a Bulldogs team still looking for its first conference win
The Nordonia Knights will try to win a fourth straight game when they visit Stow-Munroe Falls on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in a Suburban League National Conference game.
Knights on a roll
Nordonia is 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Knights have won three straight. They beat Hudson 23-9, North Royalton 34-25 and Solon 44-14. The Solon win came on the road. Their only loss was a 23-21 setback at Highland on Sept. 11.
Nordonia has scored 258 points and allowed 129 through seven games. That averages about 37 points scored and 18 allowed. Quarterback Steven Fakult is averaging 234.1 passing yards per game, according to MaxPreps. Linebacker Trent Foster averages 8.6 tackles per game. The Knights are 4-0 at home and 2-1 on the road.
Bulldogs searching for a win
Stow-Munroe Falls is 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Bulldogs have lost two straight. Highland won 42-7 on Sept. 25, and Wadsworth won 35-14 on Oct. 2.
Earlier losses were much closer. Stow fell 36-34 at Aurora, 46-40 in overtime at Medina and 24-21 to Solon. Three of the five losses came by six points or fewer. Stow’s wins came against Barberton, 44-13, and St. Francis Prep of New York, 35-6. The Bulldogs have averaged about 28 points per game.
What to watch
Nordonia has the better record and the stronger scoring numbers. The Knights average about 37 points per game, while Stow allows about 29. Stow may try to keep the game close, as it did in several of its losses. Nordonia will want to avoid a repeat of the Highland game, its lone road loss.
The Knights won last season’s meeting 34-14 at Boliantz Stadium on Oct. 24. That was the final Suburban League game of the season.
Looking ahead
Nordonia hosts Medina on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The Knights enter Friday’s game at 6-1.
