Planet Mattress Brings Name Brand Beds at Bargain Prices to Northfield Village

Northfield Village has a new spot for shoppers who want a good night’s sleep without the sticker shock. Planet Mattress sells name brand mattresses for a fraction of their original retail price. The owner brings 25 years of experience in the mattress business and has run several stores over the years.

The store is located at 10333 Northfield Road, just a few doors down from the BMV. It sits in the former Mobility Plus space, and Mobility Plus is now right next door.

How the Prices Stay Low

The store’s inventory is made up of discontinued models, floor samples and scratch and dent pieces. About 15 vendors from across the United States supply the shop. Some ship truckloads of models they no longer sell. Others invite the owner to pick up mattresses that have been sitting in their warehouses for years.

Those savings go straight to customers. A mattress that once retailed for $1,500 can sell for $200 to $400 at Planet Mattress. The top of the price range runs around $900 to $1,000.

Planet Mattress also sells wholesale. Retailers from as far away as Detroit and Columbus buy mattresses here to resell in their own stores.

Brands on the Floor

Shoppers will find Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster, Sealy, Serta and Simmons, along with newer memory foam options. Every mattress arrives new and wrapped in plastic. None of the inventory is used.

Customers sometimes ask about bed bugs when buying floor samples. According to the owner, the store has never had that problem in 25 years of business.

Adjustable bases with remotes are available too. Low platform bases are popular with high school and college students. Box springs add $100 when bought as part of a set and normally run $139 to $149 on their own.

Tell Them Your Budget

There is no haggling at Planet Mattress. Customers share what they have to spend, whether that is $150 or $500, and the owner finds the best match.

“I’ll give you the best quality for your money,” the owner said.

Over the years, customers have nicknamed the owner “the mattress doctor.” People come in with lower back pain, sore hips or a habit of sleeping on their side. Recommendations are based on those needs, backed by a mattress certification course the owner completed.

One tip many shoppers don’t know is that firmness varies by manufacturer. A medium Sealy and a medium Serta will not feel the same. That is why the owner encourages people to stop in and lie down. Shoppers are welcome to stay for 30 minutes, just like they would at home in front of the TV.

“If I can help someone sleep better, I’ve done my job,” the owner said.

Delivery and Video Shopping

Same day delivery is available through independent contractors. Delivery starts at $50 within about a 10 to 15 mile radius. The crew has delivered as far as Columbus and Detroit.

Can’t make it to the store? The owner can walk you through mattresses on a FaceTime or Google video call. Payment happens at the door with Apple Pay, Zelle or cash.

Financing Options

Planet Mattress offers buy now, pay later financing through Snap, Koalafi and American First Finance. Snap uses a quick online questionnaire and does not require a hard credit pull. Applicants need an active bank account that is not overdrawn. Approvals range from $500 to $5,000. Financing can cover the mattress, sales tax and delivery. The store sends an application link once a customer reaches out.

Exchange Policy

Because of the low prices, the store does not offer warranties. It does offer a 72 hour exchange. Keep the mattress in its plastic and use a fitted sheet. If it feels too firm or too soft, come back and pick something else. The only added cost is transportation.
