 MY FINAL THOUGHTS BEFORE ELECTION DAY

To all of my Fellow Northfield Center Township Residents;

Election Day is just hours away and I don’t know about you but it couldn’t come sooner for me.  This has really been a trying time for me and for my good friend and fellow Trustee, John Romanik.  The political attacks against us were fully expected but the degree of ferociousness, deceptions and outright lies on social media and in their fliers, were something that we were not prepared for because it was unprecedented in our small friendly community.  My twelve-year experience with the folks in Northfield Center, with very few exceptions, has been extremely positive and exceptionally friendly.

Another unprecedented occurrence has been the outside influences in the election campaign.  Both the Macedonia Mayor and at least two of the Sagamore Hills Trustees have clearly and publicly sided with our opponents because John and I have been standing up to their bullying by keeping Northfield Center’s interests foremost in our minds and in our decisions!  I’ve shown you over and over again with documented evidence of how they sabotaged our Fire District and how the Mayor has been trying to merge us into “ONE MUNICIPAL JURISDICTION!”  Yet we’ve been attacked for simply bringing these DOCUMENTED plans to your attention and saying NO to the proposed $78,000 study!

Our opponents have even accused us of “deficit spending” on the renewal contract with the Sheriff’s Department when our own Fiscal Officer stated, with DOCUMENTED facts, that we will have a $217,000 carryover at the end of the contract in 2020.  That’s not deficit spending, that’s the epitome of Fiscal Responsibility!

What bothered and hurt me the most, especially recently, were the attacks on social media by some people in our opponent’s group who attacked my proudest achievements.  According to them, I had “nothing” to do with keeping that soccer stadium out of your backyards or that I had “nothing” to do with stopping the collection of those storm water runoff fees from the NEORSD!  Or that John and I were trying to raise your taxes when all we did was give YOU the opportunity to vote on a fire levy to either keep our 88-year-old fire department or contracting with Macedonia.  YOU were given the choice, YOU made your choice and we abided by YOUR choice!  This unbelievable list goes on and on.

Marc Pepera has, for the second time, attacked us in his midnight LIAR FLIERS.  He is the reason that I coined the term “Liar Flier” back in 2005.  Every single line on his fliers are absolute lies and deceptions, especially the ones that he just delivered in the past day or so.  He proudly proclaims “No New Taxes” when it was him and his group who fought to defeat last years’ fire levy by convincing you that our contract with Macedonia would only cost $375,000.  At that time John and I told you repeatedly that the cost would be much higher since the $375,000 was only for Macedonia’s personnel to man our vehicles.  ALL other costs associated with our fire and EMS coverage was ours and ours alone.

Our current fire levy only brings in $313,000 per year and ambulance billing receipts still do not come close to fulfilling that contractual obligation.  More importantly however, is that there is NO money coming in for capital improvements!  Our current reserve of $1.2 million will be eaten up in no time considering that we need a new fully equipped ambulance at a projected cost of $500,000.  And it will only be a matter of a few years before we need a new engine at a projected cost of around a million dollars.

Again, both John and I warned everyone that we would need an additional fire levy in the near future.  I believe the term we used was “Pay now or Pay later!”  These are the FACTS that both Pepera and Mazzola have glossed over in the hope that you would forget!  They are telling you what you want to hear but we’ve always been telling you what you NEED to hear – THE TRUTH!

Most of you have been longtime readers of this newsletter and it is my firm belief that most, if not all of you, are intelligent enough to differentiate between the DOCUMENTED facts that I’ve shared with you over the years and the utter nonsense and BS that those others have been spreading during the past year and a half.

There are literally hundreds of you out there who have contacted me over the years for help in resolving your concerns and problems.  I’ve prided myself in responding to your calls and emails within minutes to no more than a few hours or a day at the most.  And John Romanik has responded similarly even though he has a full-time job!  We’ve come out to your homes, assessed your problems and then put together the needed resources to fix it.  Granted, there are some issues that remain unresolved but some of those involve the legal and mandatory involvement of County and State agencies, especially for the few remaining flooding issues involving small areas of our Township.

Folks, contrary to the picture that ‘they’ are trying to paint about Northfield Center, the fact of the matter is that we are in GOOD SHAPE!  Our books are in the black and the services that you deserve and expect continue to be provided.  And, according to our Sheriff’s Department and documented statistics, Northfield Center is one of the safest communities in Summit County!  Please do not let our opponents or their group of disgruntled people try to convince you otherwise through their liar fliers and social media tirades and propaganda.  There is nothing wrong with our Township and it will remain like that with OUR continued leadership for the next four years.  And please don’t forget the fact that both of our families as well as ourselves are also residents.  Each and every decision that we make affect us as well as you!  Do these people really think that we would jeopardize our own families with reckless decisions?

In closing, many promises and dire warnings of doom and gloom are made during election season by those seeking to unseat incumbent candidates and this race is by no means, any exception.  We’ve seen this in all of the past campaigns for Trustee and not one single warning made, especially by Pepera, has ever come true!  On the other hand, I made several promises during my campaigns and have fulfilled each and every one of them.  This time around I promise to keep watching your backs and to keep you informed to the best of my ability as I always have.  The only change that I might consider is to try to lighten up a bit with my responses to critics.

So there you have it, my final word before Tuesday’s election.  I respectfully ask that you carefully consider your choices and base them on common sense and facts and then ask yourself…..  Are you and your family happy and feel safe living in Northfield Center Township?  Assuming that your answer is YES, then why would anyone want to gamble on change?

John Romanik and I would highly appreciate your vote this coming Tuesday.  We will NEVER let you down no matter what challenges the future might hold!

PLEASE VOTE FOR PAUL BUESCHER & JOHN ROMANIK THIS TUESDAY!
