Nordonia High Loses Season Opener 46-45 against Highland in boys High School basketball

Nordonia High School boys basketball made a valiant comeback in the second half, only to lose by a single digit 46-45,to a rugged Highland High School team The Knights trailed at halftime, 26-20. But outscored Highland in the second half 25-20, losing by one. First year Knights Coach Kirk Culler (replacing former coach Matt Cash) Nordonia squad was led in scoring by junior center Ryan Smith with 10 points.

This will be a season of change not only with a new coach in Culler, but a new Suburban League alignment. The Suburban League will consist of two conferences. The National Conference (larger schools) and the American Conference (for smaller schools such as Nordonia). The Knights, who were were 6-16 last year, hope to improve with returning senior guards Santino Ciocca and Jordan Adams. Returning juniors include 6 foot 7 center Ryan Smith, forwards Luke Alders and Mike Piotrowski. Sophomore forward Tyree Evans, will be another contributing returning letterman. Senior forward Conner McMillian, junior forward David Johnson, and sophomore guards Mitch Ehrman and Drew Petros will also see playing time on the varsity squad . The Knights return to action at home on Dec 1st against Akron East.
