Nordonia Hills Board of Education Introduces New Treasurer

The replacement for outgoing Treasurer Matt Brown was introduced at the May 15 regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting by Board President Chad Lahrmer.

Kyle Kiffer will take over the financial reins on August 1.

Kiffer is finishing out the school year with Streetsboro City Schools, according to Lahrmer.

“I just want to say thank you to the Board, thank you to Dr. Clark, thank you to Treasurer Brown,” Kiffer said. “I just look forward to meeting fellow administrators, working with the treasurer’s office and administrators, and meeting the staff, the teacher’s students of the district, so thank you.”

Brown will become the treasure of Beachwood City Schools. He has been with Nordonia Hills for two years.

    Consent Items approved included:

      • Overnight/Extended Student Trips
      Nordonia High School Robotics Team to Columbus, Ohio from 5/5/2023-5/6/2023 for the 2023 FRC Ohio State Championship. Transportation By rental van.
      The cost is approximately $600 per student with no cost to the district.
      —Nordonia Youth to Youth (Y2Y) Groups to Ohio Dominican University for leadership training from 6/18/2023 to6/21/2023. Transportation By District School Bus.
      The cost is approximately $700 per student with no cost to the district.
      —Nordonia 5th Grade students to International Future Problem Solvers Competition to Amherst, MA from 6/7/2023 to 6/11/2023.
      —Nordonia 8th Grade students to Washington D.C., from 10/25/2023 to 10/27/2023. Transportation by coach buses. The cost is approximately $580 per student with no cost to the district.
      •Accept Donation: from Oakwood Labs of used science equipment for the Nordonia High School science department with an estimated value of $14,000.

    Approval of Grants:

    • Youth to Youth International Grant for $10,000 for the Nordonia Y2Y.
    • Resolution approved Declaring Transportation Impractical for Certain Identified Students.

    Purchase Service Contracts:

    • Approved Project Agreement with Champion Roofing, Inc. Resolution.
    • Approved Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation Employer Statement for Group-Retrospective-Rating.
    • Approved Agreement with Power4Schools Electric Supplier effective through the end of the July 2025 billing cycle.
    • Approved Purchase Service Agreement for Harbor Education Services, LLC (Leap Program) to provide educational services for the 2023-24 school year not to exceed $28,210/student (Paid out of IDEA-B Funds).
    • Approved Music Therapy Service Agreement with The Groovy Garfoose, LLC., to provide music therapy services for the 2023-24 school year.
    • Approved Educational Service Center of Medina County Service Agreement for the 2023-24 school year
    • Approved Wings of Change Therapy School District Placement Contract for the 2023-24 school year, not to exceed $62,000, paid out of IDEA-B Federal Funds
    • Approved Agreement with Applewood Centers, Inc. for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year Resolution
    • Approved Agreement with Suburban School Transportation to provide transportation to students with disabilities to out-of-district placements, as needed, for the 2023-24 school year.
    • Approved Contract with Summit Educational Services Center – Kids First/Tops Extended School Year Contract to provide educational services for the 2023-24 school year.
    • Approved Contract with Lora Hoffstetter and Counseling Associates, LLC effective for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school year.
    • Approved Student Academic Consumable Fees for Grades K-8 for the 2023-24 School 15. Approved several Personnel Items including Retirement/Resignation New assignments and substitutes.
