Nordonia Knights Excel in Top Gun Wrestling Tournament

The Top Gun Tournament was held at Alliance High School on Friday and Saturday, January 12th and 13th, 2024. The Nordonia varsity wrestling team participated in the tournament.

In the nearly four decades that the tournament has been going on, this year was special since it was the first time that there was a distinct division for girls. This made it an important event in the game’s history. 48 teams competed in the boys’ division, but only 28 teams competed in the girls’ division.

The squad from Nordonia performed exceedingly well, achieving a second-place finish.

Individual wrestlers also performed exceptionally well, with Ella McCabe of the girls’ squad coming in second place at 120 and Cecelia Gilliam of the boys’ team coming in third place at 135, respectively.

It was Nate Miller (138) who finished in fourth place, Israel Petite (144) who won his category, Matt Hamad (165) and Gino Perrine (175) who both finished in second place, Grant Lefeld (215) who finished in third place, and Asher Wilson (285) who finished in seventh place.

The Alliance girls wrestling team made a significant impression as well, taking first place in their division.

The top four teams in the tournament were Eagle Wrestling in first place, followed by Nordonia Knights, Aurora Greenman, and Austintown Fitch High School in subsequent positions.

The Nordonia team’s next event is the Grizzly Invitational Tournament on January 20th.
