Nordonia School Board Considering Reducing Number of School Buildings from 6 Existing Buildings to 3 New Buildings

By Julie D’Aloiso

Scott Leopold from Cooperative Strategies presented a facility masterplan recommendation at the Nordonia School Board meeting on Monday March 21.
The presentation went over recommendations from the steering committee that met many times and received input from residents in-person and via surveys.

One thing that was clear in his presentation: “Doing nothing is not an option.”

At the February 14th board meeting two pieces of property were acquired by the school district. You may watch the full meeting video here.

With this recent purchase, the recommendation that was presented to the board was as follows:

  • a new K-4 grade building constructed at Lee Eaton (construction estimated at 42 million)
  • a new 5-8 grade building constructed at the current high school location (construction estimated at 46.7 million)
  • a new 9-12 grade building constructed on the newly purchased property at the corner of Highland Rd and South Bedford Road. (construction estimated at 67.3 million)

The district would save approximately 20 million by operating 3 schools versus 6 current buildings. The board is considering the information that was presented and will decide what to present to the voters.

This is an ongoing story and more details will be coming soon.
