Fatalities and Medical Emergencies
Northfield Village Police Department responded to two deaths and several medical calls during the reporting period. On July 7, officers were sent to Milford Drive for a report of an unresponsive woman. They found her deceased when they arrived, and Northfield Village Fire Department took over the scene. Ferfolia Funeral Home was contacted, and the woman was released to the funeral home once medical examiners cleared the scene.
Officers assisted the fire department on July 10 after a woman fell at Northfield Park Racino and briefly lost consciousness. The squad transported her, and information was documented for the report.
Two days later, on July 12, NVPD responded to an open 911 line at the Racino with no response from the caller. An investigation led officers to a man who was transported by Northfield Village Fire Department to UH Ahuja.
A woman at the Racino was found breathing but unresponsive on July 16. She became responsive but remained lethargic, and the fire department transported her to Ahuja Medical Hospital.
Another fall at the Racino sent officers back on July 22, this time for a man who hit his head. He refused treatment, and all personnel cleared the scene after a report was taken.
The reporting period closed with a second death. On July 26, officers were called to Summit Avenue for a woman in her late eighties who was not breathing. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Dr. Gerardo and transported to Lucas Funeral Home.
Disorderly Conduct and Public Disturbances
A report of a possible bomb threat brought officers to Bin Treasures on July 9. A caller and an employee told police a man had commented on the store’s surveillance system, then said he had enough chemicals to blow the place up. The man’s description matched someone NVPD had encountered earlier that day, and his vehicle was later located in Macedonia, where Macedonia police held it until Northfield officers arrived. He was cited for disorderly conduct and released.
The following day, officers were sent to the Sunset Motel for a report of two men fighting. Both were separated so officers could investigate. Northfield Village Fire Department evaluated the men, who refused transport. The two men and a woman were cited for disorderly conduct by fighting, and Cuyahoga County Children Services was notified.
That night, a man who had been drinking became uncooperative with security staff at a Center Stage event inside Northfield Park Racino. Officers were called in and used reasonable force to remove him from the venue. He was cited for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, given a mandatory court date and released to his spouse.
Theft and Fraud
Northfield Park Racino was the site of two separate voucher thefts reported weeks after they occurred. On July 8, a walk in report described a theft that took place June 23, with the victim coming forward only after being notified by security. A second voucher theft, reported July 19, had occurred June 30.
A woman visited NVPD headquarters on July 13 to file a fraud report, and officers opened an investigation. The following week, on July 14, a Vincent Avenue resident reported a firearm stolen from his pickup truck. Officers entered the weapon into LEADS as stolen.
Traffic Incidents
An overnight hit skip on July 12 brought officers to North Plaza Drive after a caller reported an older rusted truck striking a speed limit sign. The caller suspected the driver may have been drunk given how the truck moved across the roadway, but officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
Road rage between two drivers drew police attention on July 21 near Northfield and Ledge roads. Officers stopped both vehicles, and the owner of one was cited for expired plates.
Two more traffic stops came in quick succession on July 26. Early that morning, an officer clocked a white vehicle driving recklessly near Northfield and Ledge roads and took the driver into custody, citing him into Stow Municipal Court. That afternoon, a black SUV traveling at a high rate of speed was stopped near Northfield Road and Kennedy Boulevard. Officers found open containers and smelled marijuana, and though the driver’s impairment did not rise to the level of an arrest, the vehicle was towed and both occupants were cited.
Property and Lost Items
A pothole in the parking lot at Peppers Market damaged a woman’s car on July 17, prompting a property damage report. Days later, on July 23, an officer took a lost property report for a cell phone reported missing on Magnolia Avenue.
