Raymond Scholes was born at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland on May 19, 1932, the only child of Frederick Leslie and Gladys (Elrick) Scholes.
He attended Cleveland’s John Marshall High School and following graduation, joined the US Naval Air Force, earning an honorable discharge on March 26, 1951. After his tour of duty, he attended Ohio University at Athens, on the GI Bill and earned a degree in Industrial Technology. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity at OU.
Most importantly at OU, he met the love of his life, Nancy Kastellic. They were married on September 12, 1964, at Epiphany Catholic Church, with a reception at Riviera Country Club.
Their love of international travel began with their honeymoon in Bermuda. Further exotic travel included London, Paris, Denmark, Germany, Australia, Mexico, and the Bahamas. Their domestic travel was primarily shared and enjoyed with their mothers.
Ray had a highly successful 32-year career with Parker Hannifin Corporation, retiring as Export Manager – International Division. He was a stamp and coin collector, enjoyed photography (both taking and developing photos), and was a master builder of state-of-the-art (now vintage) Heathkit electronic equipment. He loved cats, and provided shelter and comfort to Misty, Tommy, Bennie, Tinky, and Charlie.
He passed into eternal rest in Strongsville on September 2, 2022, with his beloved wife, Nancy, holding his hand.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, cousins Tom and Liz (Opitz) Strekal sister-in-law Barbara (Downing) Kastellic, niece Kimberly (Kastellic) Starnes, and nephew Roy Kastellic.
