Safe Decisions Week is back again September 26-29th! We have another great
week of activities and community engagement planned to focus on keeping our
students and community safe!
Activities District-Wide
The week-long safety education, sponsored by State Farm Agents Jill and Joe
Gaba and Ohio Sports Chiropractic and Rehab, will take place in all the Nordonia
schools from elementary to the high school. The high school will include fun and
interactive learning to help high school drivers make safe driving decisions. The
other schools will focus on safety education such as passenger safety, bike safety
or fire safety. Students in all the Nordonia schools will have the opportunity to
sign “I AGREE TO MAKE SAFE DECISIONS IN MY LIFE” pledge banners, which
will be hung in the stadium for the Safe Decisions Week Blackout football game.
On Tuesday, the High School students will attend an assembly focused on driver
safety. Think Fast Interactive will host a fun, interactive game show that conveys
driver safety information based on peer engagement and rewards.
On Wednesday and Thursday, High School students will have the opportunity
to participate in driver safety interactive exercises during lunch. Students may
drive a Drive Team Skid Cart Simulator, sit in a semi-truck to experience Semi-
Truck Blind Spot Awareness, drive a cart course while texting, and drive Akron
Children’s Hospital Distracted Driving Simulator. They can also participate with
Virtual Reality Distracted Driving and “walk the line” with impaired goggles. The
Summit County Sheriff’s Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be at
the high school to talk to the students about driver safety. Students will have the
opportunity to receive a 2023 Safe Decisions Week T-shirts for participating in
driver safety exercises.
On Friday, the High School will participate in a Safe Decisions Week
Homecoming/Senior Athlete Pep Rally.
Safe Decisions Week culminates Friday, September 29th. Our community is
invited to the Safe Decisions Week Community Resource Fair, outside the
stadium home entrance gates, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Free hot dogs, chips,
bottled water and T-shirts will be provided (while supplies last). Resource
tables will offer information on safety and wellness.
At 7:00 PM, the Knights will host Wadsworth in our annual Safe Decisions Week
Blackout/ Homecoming game. The team will wear their custom “Safe Decisions
Week” Black uniforms which sport a commemorative SDW patch. The uniforms
were donated by local State Farm Agents Jill and Joe Gaba and Ohio Sports
Chiropractic and Rehab. The community is encouraged to wear blackout gear.
