Safe Decisions Week returns to the Nordonia Schools and community! Nordonia Schools are partnering again with State Farm Agent Jill Gaba and Ohio Sports Chiropractic and Rehab to bring Safe Decisions Week to the district and the Nordonia community from September 28th –October 2nd, for the third year in a row.
The week-long event will take place in all of the Nordonia Schools from elementary though high school. In the past, Safe Decisions Week was filled with educational and hands-on interactive safety activities and assemblies throughout the district. This year, Safe Decisions Week will be different, but the focus is on staying SAFE, HEALTHY, and INFORMED during this unprecedented time. There will also be educational and interactive online classes for parents and the community.
Safe Decisions Week culminates Friday, October 2nd at 7 P.M. when the Knights will wear their custom “Safe Decisions Week” BLACK-OUT uniforms donated by Jill Gaba, State Farm Agent and Ohio Sports Chiropractic and Rehab. We are hoping this will be a third win in the Black-Out uniforms!
September 21-25th – Video Contest Submission
This contest is for all students K-12! There will be gift card prizes for winning entries from each building. The video must contain a positive message about personal safety, group safety, community safety, or safe decisions about physical or mental health topics.
Distracted Driving Awareness Billboard Design Challenge – Due by October 15th
State Farm, the Summit County Sheriff, and the Safe Communities Coalition present the Student Distracted Driving Awareness Billboard Design Challenge again in 2020.
The purpose is to design a public service announcement billboard that will convey the importance of driving without distractions and the dangers of distracted driving. Participant must be a high school student. The official rules and permission form can be found on Jill Gaba, State Farm Agent’s Facebook page.
Online Safe Decisions Week Pledge
Students will receive the opportunity to sign an online pledge promising to make safe decisions.
Monday – September 28th– Mindfulness/Knightfulness
All schools in the district will participate in Mindfulness programming. Namaste Yoga Studio will offer a yoga class online.
Tuesday – September 29th – Safe Socializing
All schools will focus Safe Socializing. Elementary students may also join friends online for exercises with The Little Gym or pick up a new hobby and make friends in an online cooking class.
Class of 2021 Senior Shirts – Seniors are encouraged to wear their Class of 2021 Safe Decisions Week Black-Out T-shirts to school on Wednesday or Thursday to show support for the Knights! Post your pictures wearing your shirts online to show your support to the team #NordonaSDW2020! Shirts were donated by Jill & Joe Gaba, State Farm agents in Macedonia.
Wednesday – September 30th – Mental Health and Fitness
Schools will focus on Mental Health and Fitness, which is so important during these unprecedented times. Join Center Stage Dance Studio for a fun online Hip Hop combo dance!
At 2:30 pm, Dr. Leo Korminak will join High School Principal Casey Wright in his
podcast, Nordonia Project, to share valuable information on how to stay healthy
and boost your immune system. This will be posted on the Nordonia Schools
Facebook live page.
Thursday – October 1st – Self-Care
The focus will be taking care of your body and mind including exercise, good nutrition, quality sleep, and being positive and grateful.
Friday – October 2nd – Safe Decisions Week BLACK_OUT Game vs. Stow
If you are able to attend the game, wear prior years Safe Decision Week black-out gear or black to the football game as the Knights host Stow. Since we cannot all attend, please show your support online by wearing prior SDW gear or black and #NordoniaSDW2020. The team will wear their custom “Safe Decisions Week” Black uniforms.
